JOB TITLE: Custodian/Parks

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Park Director

DIVISION: Parks Maintenance

 

DIRECTION OF OTHERS: Part-time and Temporary/Seasonal Employees

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Qualifications: High School graduate with lawn care and custodial work experience. A valid Minnesota driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications: Five years of experience in the use of lawn care equipment, routine janitorial functions, and general grounds maintenance. Class A CDL, athletic field maintenance experience, Pesticide Applicator License, and Playground Inspector Certificate.

NATURE OF WORK: To perform general cleaning activities, athletic field maintenance and minor maintenance/repairs of buildings and parks/grounds.

WORK PERFORMED/AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

I. Responsible for the general cleaning of governmental buildings and parks in order to provide pleasant and safe surroundings.

A. Cleans, sweeps, dusts, mops, and/or vacuums the building’s interior

B. Cleans and sanitizes restrooms.

 

II. Performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs on equipment and facilities.

A. Replaces light bulbs, simple repair work, (i.e. tightening door latch plates, repair chairs, etc.) and maintains cleaning equipment.

 

III. Ensures building security by checking and locking doors and windows, checking lights, and activates security systems before leaving.

 

IV. Coordinates with building supervisors for building operational activities and special events.

 

V. Communicates work orders and direction from Park Director and/or immediate supervisor.

A. Report any damage or repairs to equipment or facility to supervisor

B. Requests cleaning and maintenance supplies from supervisor

 

VI. Pickup and disposal of litter and waste.

 

VII. Operation of riding mowers, push mowers, grounds trimmers, snow blowers and powered brooms.

VIII. Prepare athletic fields.

 

IX. Remove ice, snow and debris from steps, sidewalks, bridges, and trails.

A. Assist in ice skating maintenance

B. Assist in cross country ski grooming

 

X. Assist in other building and grounds maintenance duties when requested.

 

XI. Routinely moving of bleachers, picnic tables and garbage receptacles.

XII. Report any personal injury and accidents to supervisor immediately.

XIII. Performs related work as apparent or assigned.

A. Respond to any emergency housekeeping needs

 

EXTENT AND TYPE OF INTERACTION WITH THE PUBLIC:

 

I. Answers questions of the general public or directs public to the proper employee or locations.

 

 

EQUIPMENT AND TOOL OPERATION:

 

I. All custodial related tools and equipment. All turf related equipment and hand power tools.

 

WORKING HOURS AND CONDITIONS:

 

I. Typically 40 hours per week with weekend, afternoon and evening hours. (7 days/week coverage)

The employee frequently is required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally must lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
