Reserve Officer Program
The Reserve Officer Program began on March 19, 2013. The objectives of the Reserve Officer Program are as follows:
A. To cooperate with and assist the police department in the enforcement of law and order under the direction and orders of the Chief of Police during any and all emergencies declared by the Chief to exist within the City of Owatonna;
B. To render services under mutual aid as ordered by the Chief;
C. To render volunteer police service upon occasions when, in the opinion of the Chief, such augmentation to the regular department is essential to the public welfare and safety;
D. To function in any community service events or programs in which the Chief requests volunteer involvement;
E. To maintain an on-going training program;
F. To preserve and upgrade skills necessary to perform as Reserve Officers.
Requirements to become and Owatonna Police Department Reserve Officer are listed below:
A. File a written application on the form prescribed and furnished by the City of Owatonna.
B. Be a citizen of the United States.
C. Be at least 18 years of age
D. Possess a valid Minnesota Driver’s License and have a good driving record.
E. Have a high school diploma or equivalency certificate
F. Submit to fingerprinting, background check, oral interviews and/or any other type of examination and/or testing as may be prescribed by the Chief of Police.
G. Be in general good health.
