Recreation Superintendent

 

This individual is responsible for the day to day operation of the Tennis and Fitness Center, Aquatics program and Senior Place.
 Duties / Responsibilities:
WORK PREFORMED/AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
I. Directs Tennis & Fitness Facility, Senior Place, and recreational programs in accordance with budget guidelines as established by Park & Recreation Department.
A. Prepares and justifies budget request for assigned areas of direct responsibility.
B. Assumes direct responsibility for fiscal compliance for assigned areas of responsibility.
C. Submits biweekly payrolls of part-time employees.
D. Submits daily revenue deposits to the Park and Recreation office.
E. Reviews and approves all expenditures for which control has been assigned.
 
II. Assigns Tennis & Fitness, Aquatics, and Senior Place staff to duties as established by job descriptions or work orders.
A. Will be responsible for scheduling staff.
B. Must instruct staff by way of in-service training for specific duties.
C. Will be responsible for supervision and inspection of employee duties.
D. Will prescribe high standards of performance and efficiency by employees.
E. Recommend employee decisions/evaluations regarding performance, hiring, discipline, and other staffing concerns.
 
III. Maintain departmental records in accordance with established guidelines.
 
IV. Coordinates use of the Indoor Tennis and Fitness Facility, Senior Place, and Waterpark to assure full and efficient use.
A. Conducts an effective marketing program to maximize usage of facilities.
 
V. Shall be responsible for suggesting/ordering supplies and requesting building maintenance when needed. Shall receive approval to make purchases that are felt needed.
 
VI. Shall work closely with and attend meetings that are required by the Assistant Recreation Director.
 
VII. Will write pertinent news releases and will be involved in preparing information for Tennis & Fitness Center, SeniorPlace and Waterpark newsletter/promotional flyer. Also will assist in gathering information for the department brochures and flyers.
 
VIII. Shall be responsible for scheduling lifeguarding training classes, WSI training classes, lifeguard in-service trainings, and oversee the water aerobics and aquatic programs.  
 
IX. Will be required to be familiar with Tennis & Fitness Center and Water Park’s pool filtration system and its operation. Also, will be responsible to know pool maintenance standards. Must hold a current Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certificate.
 
X. Assist with establishing and maintaining a volunteer program for the Parks and Recreation Department.
 
XI. Shall perform other duties as prescribed by Assistant Recreation Director
 
EQUIPMENT AND TOOL OPERATION:
I. Employee must be capable of operating miscellaneous office and other equipment relative to this position which shall include but may not be limited to: communication equipment, computers, typewriters, copiers, fax machines, calculators, laminating machine, credit card machines, cash register, computer printers, and other related items.
 
EXTENT AND TYPE OF INTERACTION WITH PUBLIC:
I. Develops public understanding and participation in Parks and Recreation programs through public relations activities.
A. Interprets to the public the program, its philosophy and objectives through all suitable means.
B. Establishes and maintains cooperative planning and working relationships with other public and volunteer community agencies.
C. Achieve public relation objectives through speaking engagements and use of media.
 
II. Represents the city through direct contact with the public.
A. Has daily contact with the public, including walk-in, voice and electronic communication.

 

 Qualifications:
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate or GED, supplemented at least two years of post-graduate education with a minimum of a four years in office and computer experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.  A valid MN driver's license.
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Four year college graduate of recreation leisure services, physical education, or related field with 2-3 years supervisory experience or 5 years of experience in related field. Recreational Supervisory experience. WSI Instructor and Lifeguard Instructor Certifications.Certificated Pool Operation (CPO) certification. CPR and First Aid certification.
 
 Hours of Work/Physical and Mental Demands:
WORKING HOURS AND CONDITIONS:
I. Maintains a work schedule permitting easy access for citizens. Hours may vary and shall include nights and weekends. This is a non-exempt position.
